SSC CGL 2016 LOGOStaff selection Commission Combined Graduate Level Examination (aka SSC CGL) is the most sought Competitive examination for group B and C posts in Government of India. SSC CGL is highly Competitive examination with over 20 lakhs Aspirants applying for Govt. jobs through SSC CGL. It is also called Mini UPSC due to the very competitive nature of this exam.

 The Staff Selection Commission Hold this Combined graduate Level Examination (CGL) Once in a year. Applications are invited on all India Basis with Online/Offline mode to apply to appear for this examination. Forms are normally filled in the month of February-March.

This Exam is held for many posts (viz. Income Tax Inspector, Examiner, Preventive Officer, Excise Inspector, CVC, Assistant in various Ministries, Auditors, Accountants, UDC and Tax Assistants) which are considered very respectable in society.

The examination comprises of two tiers (Tier 1 & Tier 2) both are objective in nature and consists of 200 and 400 marks respectively. There is no sectional qualifying marks in CGL. After Tier 1 and Tier 2 of CGL exam a Computer Proficiency test or skill test and Document Verification is done. (From 2016 onwards No Interview Shall be conducted for Gr. B & C level employees in Govt. of India ).


Staff Selection Commission (SSC) (Hindi: कर्मचारी चयन आयोग) is an organization under Government of India to recruit staff for various posts in the various Ministries and Departments of the Government of India and in Subordinate Offices.
This commission is an attached office of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) which consists of Chairman, two Members and a Secretary-cum-Controller of Examinations. His post is equivalent to the level of Additional Secretary to the Government of India.

List of Examinations Conducted by SSC (Staff Selection Commission)

(1) Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGLE) for posts of Inspector in Income Tax/Customs/Central Excise/Dept of post, Sub Inspector in CBI, Assistants in various Ministries Under central Govt, Divisional Accountant, Auditor, UDC, Junior Accountant, UDC, Tax Assistants etc.(From this year onwards STA, Sr. Auditor, Sr. Accountants are also expected for Direct recruitment through SSC CGL.)
(2) Combined Higher Secondary level examination (For the Posts of Data Entry Operator (DEO), LDC, Sorting Assistants and postal assistants )

(3) Sub-Inspector in Delhi Police and CPO (CRPF,CISF etc. )
(4) Junior Engineers Examination
(5) SSC has also conducted exams for recruitment to FCI, Prasar Bharati.(nowadays FCI Conducts their own exams)
